New arrivals

At long last we have a new litter of pigs.
Ramble delivered 12 little
Yorkshire/English Large Black cross
piglets onApril 29.  She had them during
the afternoon on a beautiful spring day
so we got to easily witness the births.  It
was like something out of
Charlotte's
Web
.  Except I'm not going to be
wielding an axe toward the runt.

She still has 10 going strong.  They
started wandering around the pen at
about 4 days old and are eager to dive
into their Mama's feed.  Read more on

What's New at Swallow Acres Farm
  • The feeder pigs that will be ready in June have
been moved out onto their pasture.  They're still
a bit tentative about the sudden infusion of open
    space.
  • Organic feed - We are transitioning to organic
feed for the hogs and goats.
  • Spring planting - Most of the tomatoes are in.
Now to the peppers, squash, flowers and
assorted herbs. The first potatoes are starting to
    flower.
